The costumes depend on gender and age but regarding to the culture, Lao women dressed properly since the former time because they are mothers of the nation in tradition. The Sinh is a traditional garment worn by Lao women. It is a simple tube skirt made of silk or cotton and it can identify the women who wear it in a various ways. Sinh have many different textures and designs in the foot. There are several types and design of Sinh worn for a specific event which reflects the culture, social relationships and beliefs among the community and region. The “Sing” typically consists of three components: “Hua sinh” – the head of the sinh, is the waistband part which is typically tucked in and hidden; “Phuen sinh” – the body of the sinh, is the main part of the sinh which generally consists of two colors; “Tin sinh” – the foot of the sinh, is the hem part which is designed with lots of details.
Different from Sinh of Lao women, Lao men wear “Salong” as the Laos traditional costumes. “Salong” are big pants or the peasant pants. Lao men wear Salong to attend important events or ceremonies.
