In the converted National Museum, all the furniture and decoration of the National Museum are originating in the Royal Palace: impressive staircases of marble, art of incalculable value, collections of weapons, mural paintings depicting life in Laos in the last decades, jewelry, the Royal Crown and you can even access the garage to see the car collection of the Lao King.

On display at the museum are antiques as well as old portraits and pictures from the war. A permanent gallery depicts the history of Laos from the Lao Lane Xang Kingdom until the modern era. Although the range of artifacts and photographs is not as comprehensive or as well organized as you might expect in a national museum, there are nonetheless some fascinating exhibits here. The ground floor houses a mixture of ancient items such as dinosaur bones, pottery shards and Khmer sculptures that trace the early history of the region. Laos travel tours

Before entering, you simply must take in the detail here. Titled “Tiar kha wood’, it is 4 meters tall by 2.8 meters in diameter, and shows a diorama of the cultures and traditions found throughout Lao. Inside, Laos’s ancient past is crudely depicted on canvas, with scenes such as crimson-clad Lao patriots of yore liberating the motherland from Thai and Burmese “feudalists”.

Downstairs has a potted account of Khmer culture in the south, accompanied by tools and Buddha statuary; upstairs has ponderous displays that tell the story of the Pathet Lao, peppered with busts of Lenin and Ho Chi Minh. The upstairs exhibits are better organized and presented, tracing the modern history of Laos from the Siamese invasions and the eventual colonization by the French, through to revolution, the American war and communism.
