Luang Prabang- the heaven for waterfalls

Luang Prabang- the heaven for waterfalls

The main desire for coming to Laos is to see the infamous waterfalls. Waterfalls in Luang Prabang definitely do not disappoint and are considered to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world! The ancient town of Luang Prabang situated in northern Laos, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. Considered by many travellers and writers as being the heart of Laotian culture, the tiny town is encircled by mountains and is 700 metres above sea level at the confluence of the Nam Khan and Mekong Rivers. If you are a waterfall lover and keen on photography, and this one blew my mind with its picturesque tranquility. The most picture perfect waterfalls with lots of small falls and one large one will be opened in front of your eyes, and you will have to ejaculate that: “The best image i never ever seen previously”. The first waterfall I would like recommend you is Kuang Si. Located about 30 kilometers to the southwest of town, Kuang Si is regared as the best waterfall in Luang Prabang. That’s why don’t leave Luang Prabang before you have visited the KuangSi Waterfall!  It’s a 45 minute drive from Luang Prabang through beautiful mountain scenery by car to get there. Instead of going by an organised tour, you can easily ask any TukTuk driver to take you there, wait for you, and take you back or another choice is getting there by scooter with detailed signposts. The road is in good condition and because it is next to Mekong River so that you can take some beautiful pictures along the way and visit some local temples and explore the elephant conservation centre. After getting the tickets, you can visit the Asiatic Bear rescue centre where they have about 30 rescued Moon Bears before take a short walk on uneven pathways through the forest to the foot of the falls. Besides visiting the rescue centre, good to see them getting some protection, you can buy a bear Tshirt to support the cause or donate at the park. Let’s imagine your group will have a new uniform when visiting here. This is so lovely, isn’t it?. After walking throught this centre, you’re gonna be suprised by the beauty of Kuang Si waterfall. Such a wonderful place to relax in ,the Kuang Si falls itself consist of several layers, and each layer has it own uniqueness. Turquoise water colour looks amazing on picture and instagramable. There are some areas that you actually can swim and jump from a tree to the natural pool. If you tend to visit here, go early is the best advise I can give. The earlier you go the more you enjoy the trek up and then a cooling off dip in any of the fall’s natural pools before the crowd sets in. Nothing better on a hot day, right!

The other worthwhile waterfall in the Luang Prabang area is Tad Sae. About 16 kilometres from town, this waterfall is favoured by Lao people over Kuang Si, as a stunning waterfall in the middle of a rain forest. The best way to get to Tad Sae is to grab a tuk tuk on the street. So if you have a group of four or more, the rate will certainly be lower than normal.

Once you visit here, you can easily realize what makes this waterfall unique is that it requires a boat to access it. Just with 10,000 kip per person, boats are always available for you in order to take a short journey across the river from the parking area. It is a nice spot to wander around because it located in the jungle. This location is absolutely stunning. If Kuang Si waterfall is decorated by stunning turquoise water gently tumbles over limestone rocks, Tad Dae is more integrated with the forest, giving the impression that it is flooded. The waterfalls cascade into small naturally forming pools … from one level to the next, which makes it look quite magical. The water is crystal bleu and must be gorgeous to swan in it in summer time. If you tend to visit Tad Dae waterfall, the best time for you is from June to October and during other months you also can do some activities such us picnic, elephant riding, trekking and…Tours to Laos
