Setting against a scenical part of the Mekong River cruise, Si Phan Don (meaning 4,000 islands in Laos) is a beautiful set of islands in Southern Laos. The Mekong can be passable to river traffic here due to the Khone Falls, a large number of fast flowing rivers stretching 9.7 kilometers (6.0 miles) of the river’s length.

The part of Mekong under the falls has a little population of the highly risky Irrawaddy Dolphins. Don Det, Don Khon and Done Kong are three main islands that cater to tourists.While Don Khong which is believed to be the largest island in Si Phan Don, is sleepiest and attracts the fewest tourists, most of the accommodation provided on Don Det and Don Khon includes homely, family run bungalows. Peaceful Si Phan Don
