Situated right near Wat Sisaket and built in the 16th century as a personal chapel for the royal family, this historic temple of Ho Phra Keo was used to house the famous Emerald Buddha, which now resides in the Bangkok’s Grand Palace. Spend time admiring the exterior with gardens, carved doors and the bronze Buddha statues. To enter this temple, proper dress is strictly required.

Cost: 5,000 kip (~60 cents)

Insider Tip: At the first half of 2015, this temple was under construction and visitors were not allowed to get into the temple itself but are allowed on the grounds (and the entrance fee is waived).

Night market, which is held every night by the river in the Mekong Riverside Park (which is also a stunning place for a stroll during the daytime), is easily recognizable by the red tents covering each stand. Here, it is possible to find everything from beautiful silk scarves, local Lao artwork to clothes and sneakers, and even much more! A chance to experience a night market, which is so popular in South East Asia, is definitely worth checking out one night.

Insider Tip: Just outside of the market, there are some amazing Doner Kebab carts that are incredibly delicious! It is highly recommended to grab one for dinner before enjoying a pancake with chocolate and banana for dessert! And if you do want to buy anything in the market, don’t forget to barter!
