Leave an ancient Vientiane capital and a cultural Luang Prabang city behind and come to Vang Vieng, another tourist attraction, which has become the pit stop of Laos.
Situated halfway down the long Vientiane to Luang Prabang highway, Vang Vieng leaves a profound impression as a small town of mountains under which is a network of limestone caves, of the free-flowing river named Nam Song with green fertile fields and of peacefully beautiful villages. At your first sight of this town when you are on the main road, you may not immediately be attracted by its seemingly simple landscape, and somewhat be annoyed by the blazing sunshine. However, your attitude towards Vang Vieng will be definitely reshaped after your exploration. Read more tours in Laos

Admiring the golden pink glow of sunset behind the mountains may be the most worthwhile thing to do, probably the first you should do on arriving in Vang Vieng, with a cocktail only in Laos which is a mix of coke, Red Bull energy drink, lemonade and a little Laos’s vodka.
For action and adventure, there are tubing, kayaking, trekking, the most dangerous bungee and, for the ultra-adventurous, rock climbing. Anyone does not find these thrilling can wander around the town for a chance of tasting Vang Vieng’s specialties with a unique type of Laos’s wine, visit Vang Vieng’s market or ride a cycle along the two river banks to small villages. These are also valuable experience.
About 2 kilometres from the town centre stands the mysterious Tham Chang cave which is one of the reasons this tourist mecca has sprung up. You can ride a rented bicycles or choose a tuk tuk (at cost of 20,000 LAK) to get to the cave, and another 10,000 LAK for the entry fee.
In Vang Vieng, there are no 5-star luxurious restaurants, no executive hotels and no renowned resorts which seem not be suited its wild scenery; the major are normal diners facing Nam Song River, and hostels, budget hotels and bars.
