On the 29th March 2017, Vietnam Airlines launched its first direct flight from Hanoi to Sydney, Australia, the beginning of regular flights connecting these two beautiful cities. Following flights connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Sydney and Melbourne, this is the third route to Australia offered by this airline.

According the announcement of the government’s e-Portal, Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft will be used for the national flag carrier’s new service. There are three such flights conducted a week with flights getting out of Hanoi at 11.55 PM on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, and flights returning from Sydney at 2.15 PM in winter and at 3.15 PM in summer on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays (all local times). The total flight time is 9 hours and 35 minutes. There have already been daily flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Sydney and Melbourne operated by Vietnam Airlines.

Meanwhile, Australian Jetstar Group will provide promotional air fares for passengers flying from Australia’s Melbourne and Sydney cities and Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa from May.

Earlier, Jetstar Pacific – the low-cost airline launched its first direct flights to Hong Kong from the central city of Danang (Danang International Airport) on the 27th March. There will be three flights operated per week, every Monday, Tuesday and Friday, with the ticket price ranging from VND 290,000 ($12.6) per leg. Flights to Hong Kong from Danang are scheduled to leave Danang at 10.10 AM and the return flights to depart at 2.05 PM (all local times). The total flight time is expected to be 1 hour and 45 minutes. Following those flights connecting Danang with Singapore and Taipei, this is the third international route from Jetstar Pacific.

As part of its plan to expand in Asia, Jetstar Pacific – another budget airline will offer services on the Dong Hoi – Chiang Mai (Thailand) route in June. On the 27th March, the airline ran its flights between Danang – Hong Kong.

After the flight between Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and Singapore (SIN) launched in 2014, the low-cost carrier Vietjet Air will open a new flight – its second air route to the country connecting Hanoi (HAN) and Singapore (SIN) on the 27th April. Meanwhile, flights from Danang to Seoul – the capital city of the Republic of Korea (the Republic of Korea) (ICN) are set to begin from the 31st May. At the outset of this year, the carrier also launched services between the capital city of Hanoi – Siem Reap (Cambodia) and Ho Chi Minh City – Taichung (Taiwan). There are daily flights from Hanoi to Siem Reap and flights from Siem Reap to Hanoi every Monday and Wednesday. On Monday and Wednesday, the flight leaves Hanoi at 5:15 PM and arrives in Siem Reap at 7:00 PM. On Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, it leaves Hanoi at 4:55 PM and arrives in Siem Reap at 6:40 PM. On Friday and Sunday, it leaves Hanoi at 3:55 PM and arrives in Siem Reap at 5:40 PM. The return flight leaves Siem Reap at 08:05 PM and arrives in Hanoi at) 9:50 PM.

As other international airlines have fleshed out plans to fly to Vietnam, opportunities will arise for trade between Vietnam and other foreign cities. T’way Air, a low-cost airline in the Republic of Korea has operated flights linking Danang City and Daegu City since the 2nd April. Also, Emirates Airline will offer daily non-stop flights between Hanoi and Dubai (transit at Yangon Myanmar) from the 2nd July.
